Cell Phones- Telecommunication Devices:

A paging device is defined by state law as a "telecommunications device to include mobile telephones/camera telephones, device that emits an audible signal, vibrates, displays a message or other summons or delivers a communication to the possessor."

  • The district allows the possession of paging devices by students only under the following circumstances.   (“Off and Out of Sight”)
  • Operating, i.e., turned on, paging devices are not allowed in schools or on school grounds before the start of the school day or during the school day until the dismissal of school.  Students are to store paging devices out of sight and in pockets, bags, backpacks, purses, etc.
  • Operating, i.e., turned on, paging devices are not allowed en route to and from school on school buses. Students are to store paging devices out of sight and in pockets, bags, backpacks, purses, etc.
  • Operating, i.e., turned on, paging devices are allowed in school and on school grounds after the conclusion of the regular school day.
  • Each principal or his/her designee is authorized to further limit the use of or confiscate paging devices if these devices are causing a disruption to a school or school-sponsored event.

Those who violate this policy are subject to the following consequences.

  • First offense - confiscation of the paging device and further sanctions in accord with the district's code of student conduct. After a conference with the parent/legal guardian, the paging device will be returned to the adult.
  • Second offense - confiscation of the paging device and further sanctions in accord with the district's code of student conduct. After a conference with the parent/legal guardian, the paging device will be returned to the adult at the end of the semester.

Third offense - confiscation of the paging device and further sanctions in accord with the district's code of student conduct. After a conference with the parent/legal guardian, the paging device will be returned to the adult at the end of the school year.
