School Bus Riders

2021-2022 KCSD Code of Student Conduct for School Buses

The primary purpose of the school bus is to provide safe transportation for students to and from school and school related activities. The safety of students and other passengers is paramount when transporting band instruments and other large items. Any item carried on a school bus must be of such size that it can be transported in the student’s lap. Any home project, musical instrument, or other item which would create a hazard or block the aisle or vision of the driver is prohibited. All aisles, doors, and emergency exits must remain unobstructed at  all times. This is necessary to ensure that all items are kept under the control of the student at all times in case of an accident or an emergency, and that those items do not prevent or hinder the evacuation of the bus in the event of an emergency.

THE PRIVILEGE OF RIDING A SCHOOL BUS MAY BE WITHHELD DUE TO STUDENT MISBEHAVIOR ON SCHOOL BUSES.

Bus Discipline is a part of the total school discipline process. Misbehavior on or about school buses or at school bus stops will not be tolerated. For reporting purposes, as well as disciplinary purposes, misbehavior on or about school buses or at school bus stops will be divided into two main categories: MINOR INFRACTIONS or MAJOR INFRACTIONS. A MINOR INFRACTION may become a MAJOR INFRACTION depending on the severity of the case. Some MAJOR INFRACTIONS may result in expulsion from school. These include bringing weapons, look-alike weapons, drugs, or drug paraphernalia on the school bus, any acts of vandalism to the school bus, physical abuse to the bus driver on the bus and other acts of similar severity. A reasonable effort will be made to notify the parent or guardian of all minor and major infractions as they are committed.
